Hong Kong Phooey is a made-for-TV cartoon that William Hanna and Joseph Barbera produced for their company, Hanna-Barbera. It ran in 1974, with a total of 16 episodes airing on ABC. Mild-mannered Penry Pooch, who works as a police station janitor, can turn into number one crime fighter, Hong Kong Phooey when trouble arises, though he believes in martial arts, the only thing that really saves the day is either pure luck or his pet cat/sidekick Spot taking out the bad guy(s), which in the end, makes Phooey look like the hero.
When we started creating characters for our YouTube channel, Hong Kong Phooey and Spot were in the first lineup we did for modeling, we made them as they were part of HB's history, I did modeling work for their heads, as well as created Phooey's uniform.
The first Hong Kong Phooey story we produced for the channel, titled "The Biggest Heist This World Has Ever Seen," which was written by me. The plot followed Hong Kong Phooey solving the biggest heist this world has ever seen. The second story, titled "The Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu," which also was written by me, involved Hong Kong Phooey practicing with the Hong Kong Book of Kong Fu. In the final story, "What's a Fellow Like You Doing in a Sketchy Place," which again, was written by me, had Hong Kong Phooey tracking down a bad guy.
We are still in the process of writing more Hong Kong Phooey stories, as well as other Hanna-Barbera stories that you may see in the future. However, we haven't written a Hong Kong Phooey story in a while as of 2023, but I hope we can create more in the near future.
