Behind the Scenes: The Making of Lippy the Lion for Our YouTube Channel

Lippy the Lion and Hardy Har Har is a made-for-TV cartoon that William Hanna and Joseph Barbera produced for their company, Hanna-Barbera. It ran from 1962 to 1963 as a segment under The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series, with a total of 52 episodes airing in syndication. Each episode followed the ongoing adventures of a happy-go-lucky, fast-talking lion named Lippy, and his partner, a depressed hyena named Hardy Har Har, going on many adventures together.

When we started creating characters for our YouTube channel, Lippy and Hardy were in the first lineup we did for modeling, we made them as they were part of HB's history, I did all the modeling work with the exception of Lippy's head.

The first Lippy story we produced for the channel, titled "A Lion & A Hyena," which was written by me. We still in fact have the original storyboard. The plot followed Lippy and Hardy joining the circus. The second story, titled "Are You Lyin' Lion?," which I also wrote, involved Lippy and Hardy going to get free pies. In the final story, "That's a Little Too Much Harding Hardy," which I also wrote, had Lippy and Hardy going house sitting.

We are still in the process of writing more Lippy stories, as well as other Hanna-Barbera stories that you may see in the future. However, we haven't written a Lippy story in a while as of 2023, but I hope we can create more in the near future.
